Your privacy

Home by Dark is a free learning site. You can read every lesson without giving us your email, making an account, or paying us. We don’t sell your personal information or use these tools to target ads.
What your browser remembers
Lesson progress, your learning path, and your site preferences stay in this browser’s local storage. They don’t sync to a server or another device. Clear Home by Dark’s saved site data to remove them; that resets your progress and preferences.
The practice Terminal is a simulation. What you type there isn’t sent to a server or run on your computer. It is excluded from recordings.
Optional analytics and recordings
These tools help us see what’s useful and where people get stuck. They stay off until you agree. Saying no doesn’t change which lessons you can read.
- Google Analytics 4 (GA4) counts visits and page views. With usage analytics allowed, Google receives a browser identifier, page and referral information, and browser/device details; it can derive a general location from the connection. Advertising personalization and Google signals are off. Google’s privacy policy.
- PostHog analytics receives page views, a random identifier, and browser/device details when usage analytics is allowed. We don’t attach your name, email, or account to these visits. PostHog’s privacy policy.
- PostHog session recordings are a separate choice. They replay navigation, clicks, scrolling, and the page as it appeared. Typed input is masked; forms, account content, and the entire practice Terminal are excluded. Console logs and network request bodies are not recorded. This doesn’t record your camera, microphone, other tabs, or other apps.
Use Privacy choices at the bottom of any page to allow either, both, or neither. Turning a tool off stops future collection; it doesn’t erase information already received. Choices and Google’s analytics cookies expire after 180 days. PostHog is configured without persistent tracking cookies.
Recordings are configured for 30-day retention. GA4’s individual user/event data is kept for two months without resetting on a new visit; aggregate reports can last longer. Our PostHog plan offers up to seven years of analytics reporting; that window isn’t a guarantee of automatic deletion. Providers may process information in the US and other countries.
Google Search Console
Search Console reports whether Google can find the site, plus search terms, impressions, clicks, and search position. It adds no visitor-tracking script or cookie here and doesn’t tell us who searched. Activity on Google Search is covered by Google’s privacy policy.
Hosting, video, and other tools
Cloudflare hosts the live site; Render hosts the build preview. They receive connection details, including your IP address and requested page, to deliver content, fix errors, and prevent abuse. Technical-log retention follows their service settings. Clearing browser storage doesn’t remove provider records.
Where optional sign-in or hosted video is available, Supabase handles email sign-in links, account/session data, and video-access tokens; Cloudflare Stream delivers video. Written lessons work without either.
The AI tools linked in lessons have their own privacy terms. Home by Dark doesn’t receive your conversations in those tools. The GeoCities visitor counter is decoration; fonts are served with the site.
Questions and your choices
Email [email protected] for privacy questions or requests to access, correct, or delete information. Depending on where you live, you may have other rights, including restricting or objecting to processing, receiving a copy, or complaining to your privacy regulator. We may need details to locate a visit because we don’t know your name from a random identifier.
Email sent to our public address is forwarded through Cloudflare Email Routing to our Microsoft 365 inbox. Those providers process the sender’s address, message, and any attachments to deliver and store the email. We use your message to respond and handle the issue; some records may need to be kept for legal obligations. Sending a question doesn’t join a mailing list. See the contact page. Changes to this policy will carry a new date.
